The Foundation

The foundation was organized in 1989 as a way to honor and memorialize the contributions to Insurance Regulation of the well respected Deputy Director of the Illinois Insurance Department, Ken Smith.

A group of present and former insurance commissioners and industry leaders concluded that an annual school for insurance regulators involved with solvency regulation would be the Foundation's mission.

Education Program

The Foundation's educational program is currently held at the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management at Illinois State University, a preeminent insurance school for undergraduates.

Annual Insurance Regulation Symposium

An annual insurance regulation symposium is held each fall in Chicago and features presentations by experts on current insurance and regulation issues.

Annual | Golf Outing

Annual Golf Outing

Attendees are able to learn more about the Foundation's work in providing the world's only university-based educational program.

An Annual Golf Outing is held in August which helps to defray costs of the educational program. This all day event includes lunch and an 18 hole scramble followed by dinner and brief program.
